AA Will Forever Be Non-Professional

Tradition Eight says that Alcoholics Anonymous should always remain non-professional, while allowing service centers to employ special workers when necessary.

Today we’ll talk about why AA was never meant to become a profession, a business, or a system run by experts. Its strength comes from one alcoholic sharing experience, strength, and hope with another—freely, honestly, and without titles or status getting in the way.

We’ll also look at the difference between doing professional work in the recovery field and carrying the AA message, why paid workers may support AA services without being paid to do Twelfth Step work, and how keeping AA non-professional protects its simplicity and primary purpose.
