Is This Recovery or Just Validation?
Recovery was never meant to be comfortable all the time. It was meant to be honest. Somewhere along the way, support can quietly turn into agreement, and encouragement can turn into avoidance. When that happens, growth slows — and sometimes stops altogether.
Today on The Daily Trudge, we ask a direct question:
Is this recovery… or is it just validation?
This isn’t about shaming, attacking meetings, or calling people out. It’s about looking honestly at whether we’re helping each other change, or simply helping each other feel better without changing anything. Validation has its place — especially early on — but recovery that never challenges us eventually becomes a place where truth gets softened and accountability disappears.
We’ll talk about the difference between support and enablement, compassion and people-pleasing, honesty and comfort. We’ll look at why uncomfortable conversations matter, why growth often feels abrasive at first, and why real recovery requires more than agreement and applause.
If you’ve ever left a meeting feeling reassured but unchanged…
If you’ve noticed honesty being replaced by “whatever works for you”…
If you believe recovery should lead to transformation, not just affirmation — this conversation is for you.
If it doesn’t apply to your meeting, great.
But it applies somewhere.
